Alice Koss (85) of Altamont

Alice Pearl Koss, 85, of Altamont, went to her heavenly home at 1:30 p.m. Friday, January 8, 2016 at HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital, Effingham.
Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 12 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Altamont with Rev. Bernard M. Ross officiating. Burial will follow at Immanuel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Gieseking Funeral Home, Altamont and for one hour prior to service time at the church. Memorials may be made to Lutheran Care Center, After School Program, Immanuel Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.

Alice was born on Sunday, February 16, 1930 in Mound Township, rural Altamont to Edwin and Edna (Ferchow) Burrow. She was baptized, confirmed and married in Immanuel Lutheran Church where she remained a faithful member all of her life. She married to George C. Koss on October 24, 1948 and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1980. In addition to raising her family, she had worked at Lutheran Care Center for 28 years as a CNA. She loved her work in helping others and after retiring she was an active as volunteer there. She also served on the Altar Guild at Immanuel Church.
Surviving are her son, Larry Koss and his wife Joann of Altamont; daughters, Linda Sobottka of Boise, Idaho, Ruth Baucum of Vandalia, Mary Roedl and her husband Joe of Mason, and Julie Luchtefeld and her husband Joe of Altamont; 11 grandchildren, Scott (Traci) Baucum, Brandon (Jennifer) Baucum, Jennifer (Brian) Boerngen, Brian Roedl, Kim (Cody) Mihlbacher, Dana (Jason) Cochran, Pam (Jason) Buening, Ashley (James) Yantis, John (Shelley) Koss, Taylor (Molly) Luchtefeld, and Jordan (Mishel) Luchtefeld; 12 great grandchildren, Isaac Sobottka, Devin and Bradin Baucum, Faith and Nathan Boerngen, Gwen, Nolan, and Carson Mihlbachler, Shawn and Abbie Cochran, Elijah and Hannah Yantis; 5 step great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Burrow of Altamont and Olga Michel of St. Peter and brother-in-law, Bill Stuckemeyer of Altamont.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Burrow; sister, Laverne Trost; brothers-in-law, Harold Stuemke and Carl Trost; son-in-law, Fred Sobottka; and 2 sisters in infancy.
