Doris Louise French, 85, of Newton passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, Illinois.

Funeral services for Doris will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 9 at the Crain Funeral Home in Newton with Pastor Nate Hagen officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Trexler Cemetery, rural Newton. Memorial gifts may be made to the Kedron United Methodist Church.

Doris was born on September 27, 1930 in Grange Township of Clark County, Illinois the daughter of Don M. and Juanita (Stanley) Chapman. On May 31, 1949, Doris married Homer Elden French. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2013. In addition to being a wife and mother, Doris owned and operated Imps and Angels Day Care in her home from 1964 – 2000. Through the years, Doris loved and cared for 234 children. Doris attended Kedron United Methodist Church and was a member of Clowns of America International. Doris loved reading, crocheting, flower gardening, camping, and raising birds. Owls were her favorite. She loved time spent with family, especially the grandkids.

Doris will be loved and remembered her sons David French, wife Gail and Steve French, wife Sandy both of Newton; grandchildren Laura Wright, husband Michael of Casey, Mike French, wife Sarah of Dieterich, Pam Hartke, husband Caleb of Dieterich, and Heather French of Stoy; step-grandchildren Shawn Klier, wife Tracy of Chandler, AZ, Shannon Klier of Midland, TX, and Shane Klier, wife Rhiannon of St Clairsville, OH, Corbette Wilson, wife Jamie of Newton and Calyna Horn, husband Joshua of Olney; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers John Chapman, wife Carolene of Robinson and Bob Chapman, wife Lola of Florida.

Her parents, husband Homer, daughter-in-law Dee French, infant grandchild Lea Ann French, brother Harold Miller and sister Lois Funk preceded her in death.
