James W. Pippin, 80, of Effingham died at 1:17pm Monday, September 10, 2012 in St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, September 13, 2012, at Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham, with interment to follow. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. Thursday at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham.

James was born on May 30, 1932 in Effingham, the son of John W. and Florence L. (Shadwell) Pippin. James was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Korean conflict. He was affiliated with the New Beginnings Church in Effingham. He was self-employed in general construction.

James is survived by his sisters, Alice Welton of Effingham and Mary Muntean of Effingham; half-brothers, Wallace Gerhardt of Effingham and Kenneth (Mary) Gerhardt of Effingham; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Florence L. Mast, Virginia Elledge, and Kathleen Rawlings; and brothers, John Pippin, Alfred Pippin, Robert Pippin, and Herbert Gerhardt.
