Shirley B. Claar, 92, of Effingham died at 2:40pm Thursday, July 26, 2012 at Lutheran Care Center in Altamont.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, July 30, 2012 at Johnson Funeral Home, Effingham, with Dr. Roger Marshall officiating. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Effingham. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday prior to the service at the funeral home.  Memorials may be made to Taylor Robert Eshoo Scholarship Foundation, 6814 W. Shirley was born on September 17, 1919 in Effingham, IL, the daughter of Paul and Ruby (Adams) Taylor. She married Robert B. Claar on January 30, 1940, in Brownsville, TX.  He preceded her in death on April 17, 1992.  Shirley was a member of the Presbyterian Church. She was a legal secretary for her father’s businesses, which were Effingham Building & Loan/Taylor & Schniederjon Law Firm. In high school, she was the state type writing champion and Effingham High School Valedictorian, Class of 1937. Shirley was an avid bowler and bridge player and enjoyed playing golf. She also enjoyed cruising the Mississippi River and other areas with her husband, Robert.

Shirley is survived by her children, Roger C. (Pat) Claar of Bolingbrook, Bernice “Bernie” (John C.) Eshoo of Chicago, Philip J. (Lori) Claar of Effingham; brother, Paul Taylor Jr. of Effingham; sister, Betty Baldwin of Cabin John, MD; grandchildren, Lindsey (Trevor) Claar Smith of Encinitas, CA, Stephen (Tina) Patterson of Athens, GA, John P. Eshoo of Chicago, and Robert Taylor Claar of Effingham; and great-grandchildren, Randal, Taylor, Luna, and Boone Patterson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Robert P. “Robin” Claar; and grandchildren, Shirley Bernice “Neicee” Claar, and Taylor Robert Eshoo.
