Dorothy May Latch, 83, of Stewardson, Illinois passed away at 3:45 a.m. Sunday, July 22, 2012 in Eden Retirement Center, Glen Carbon.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 28 in Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson. Pastor Richard Bremer will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in Brummerstedt Funeral Home in Stewardson and one hour before the service Saturday in the church. Burial will be in Stewardson Cemetery. Dorothy was born May 22, 1929 in Prairie Township, Shelby County, near Stewardson, the daughter of Fred and Caroline Friese Fluga. She married Joe Anson Latch December 19, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Stewardson and he passed away December 12, 1988. Dorothy was a graduate of Stewardson High School and a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Stewardson. She was a talented and dedicated quilter. Many days you could find her working in her flower beds or doing yard work. She and her husband also shared a love for John Deere tractors. Dorothy and Joe were husband and wife and life partners. They owned and operated the Latch Grocery in Stewardson for 33 years. The grocery store was their life and their enjoyment. Their passion was serving the Stewardson community. They loved visiting with their friends and neighbors and were especially generous when they needed a helping hand. Dorothy was a true pillar of her community.
Surivivng is her son, J.J. Latch; grandchildren, Kerri (husband Jeremy) Wells of O'Fallon and Kristina Latch of Beecher City; great-grandchildren, Ashton and Aidan Wells; brother Charles (wife Marjorie) Fluga of Stewardson; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe; parents; grandson, Michael William Latch and sister, Mathilda Ealy.
