Don Stuckey from rural Beecher City will be walking 90 miles. Don decided this May to walk 90 miles (Effingham IL to Springfield IL, Sept 19-28) to promote transplant/organ donor awareness and raise money for Memorial Transplant Services Patient Assistance Fund in association with their annual 5K Run/Walk.  “Paying it forward”; a benefit was held for Don a couple of years ago to offset expenses after first initial kidney failure and subsequent dialysis. Walk90 begins Thursday, September 19 at DaVita Dialysis Effingham, 904 Medical Park Drive, at 8am.  The 9 Day Schedule averages 10 miles a day, about 3.5 hours plus breaks.  Mom & I will be following in a support vehicle.  Route is 32/33 out of Effingham, continuing on 33 to 128, 128 north to 16, 16 west to 29, 29 into Springfield.  Detailed Schedule can be found at http://www.walk90.org/  (Times are approximate & subject to change).  Day 1 has  Don stopping in Beecher City.  We will set up an information table at Food Liner on N Charles (Sep 19 from 3-5pm) where Beecher City residents can meet Don, learn about transplantation & organ/tissue donation, and make a donation to Memorial Transplant Services Patient Assistance Fund.  Awareness wristbands, huggies and pins available with $5 donation.

Saturday, September 28, Don will walk another 2 miles from The State House Inn in Springfield to Washington Park , where he will meet up with Team Walk90.Organ and participate in Memorial Transplant Services 10th Annual 5K Run/Walk, raising money for Transplant Patient Assistance Fund.  This Annual 5K brings together living donors, families of deceased donors, & transplant recipients.  We had no idea getting into this that Don would be participating as a recipient, and we will be thinking of his Donor that day and every day.
