On Sunday, April 21, at 2:00 P.M., the Effingham County Museum will formally dedicate its newest display, an exhibit which focuses on the writing of Illinois' Sixth State Constitution.  When 116 delegates were selected to write that document, Effingham Attorney, James Parker, was among that number, being elected as a representative from the 50th Legislative District.  Salem's Dwight Friedrich was the other representative from the District.  Con-Con, as the convention was popularly known, convened on December 8, 1969 and concluded on September 3, 1970.  The new constitution replaced a document which was 100 years old.

The Parker family has recently donated the desk at which delegate James Parker sat during the event, along with related pictures, papers, and bound volumes related to his time as a delegate to that Illinois Constitution Convention in 1970.  The display is on the Museum's second floor.  The bound volumes contain the verbatim transcripts of the proceedings of the Sixth Illinois Constitutional Convention, an important event in Illinois history, and an event in which Effingham County was well represented by Attorney James Parker.

The public is invited to this special dedication event.
