Cumberland school board members this week confirmed Kevin Maynard as Cumberland High School Principal next school year.

Maynard is currently the middle school principal.  He'll move to the high school to succeed Todd Butler, who will become superintendent next year, succeeding John Hasten who agreed to a one-year stint as superintendent while Butler completed his coursework for the top job.  Cumberland officials will now seek a replacement for Maynard as middle school principal.

Also at Cumberland this week, Board President Jack Ingram praised the sports teams, fine arts programs, and Scholastic Bowl teams for working together to allow students to participate in multiple activities.

Butler recognized Cumberland wrestlers Nathan Day, Blaine Yocum and Brock Overbeck for reaching the state meet this weekend.

Maynard recognized Monica McNeil for her efforts to help raise $5,000 for the American Heart Association.

In response to a request from local resident Mike Black, the Cumberland board approved the formation of a Bass Fishing Club at Cumberland High School.  The Board also approved the posting of two elementary teaching positions, a high school English teaching position, and a boys middle school assistant track coaching position.

The Board hired Ashey Edmonds as credit recovery aide, and employed Jamie Whitaker as a fulltime high school cook.
