Following the trend of many districts, Altamont Board of Education members Monday voted to not hold an eighth grade promotion ceremony this year.
Instead, there will be recognition of the eighth grade class at the annual Junior High Awards Day.
The Altamont Board hired Jenna Murray as a junior high cheer coach; approved summer grade school basketball and art camps; approved a water line easement with the City of Altamont; and approved an intergovernmental agreement with the Regional Office of Education for Regional Safe Schools and Alternative Schools.
Board members heard that even with two fewer games and one less school, this year's NTC Tournament came close to equaling last year's total revenue for the week. The Board also heard that high school enrollment is up 24 from last year, while grade school enrollment is down 11 from a year ago.
There was also a report on a visit by Chief Illiniwek to Altamont for a ballgame, an event that drew a large crowd.
Altamont's Illinois State Scholars were recognized: Aaron Goeckner, Amelia Kopplin, Deidre Ledbetter, Danielle White, Macy Wendling, Jacob Seidel, Tiffany Trzupek and Ethan Deadmond.
