Former Illinois House Republican Leader Tom Cross visited Effingham Friday to promote his campaign for State Treasurer.

A resident of Oswego, a farming community west of Chicago, Cross said he was frustrated by the Democrat leadership in solving some of the state's most significant problems.  He said Republican leadership in finance-based offices such as State Treasurer would be good for Illinois.  Current State Treasurer Dan Rutherford is seeking the Republican nomination for governor.

Asked whether he was eyeing higher office eventually, Cross said an elected official should do the best job they can in the office they hold while they hold that office.
