Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey investigated two deaths Monday morning. Authorities say no foul play is suspected in either incident.
58-year-old Charles Funneman of the Green Creek area was found unresponsive in his home by a family member. Emergency services were notified and the coroner’s office was requested. Coroner Guffey responded to the scene at 9:35am and pronounced Funneman dead. An autopsy was conducted later Monday. The cause of death is undetermined after the initial investigation and preliminary autopsy report. No foul play is suspected. The investigation continues by the Effingham County Coroner and final autopsy results and toxicology tests are pending. The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.

At 11:15 am Monday, Guffey also responded to a residence in Effingham County near Altamont. 73-year-old Virgil Winters had been found unresponsive in his residence. Guffey pronounced Winters dead at 11:51am. The investigation disclosed that Winters died due to natural causes.
