Effingham physician Nash Naam has been chosen as president of the American Society for Peripheral Nerve.
While it's the National Society, the organization is international in scope as there is no worldwide organization for peripheral nerve.

It's quite an honor for the local doctor, who admits it's a very rare situation that someone would be chosen from a small community for such a big organization.
As president, Dr. Naam will oversee the organization's annual convention, which will be held in The Bahamas this year.
During a reception Friday at Tuscan Hills Winery, Dr. Naam spoke with local media about the honor. He said he hopes to increase membership in the organization worldwide and plans to invite the "best and brightest" from across the globe to work together to improve treatment of peripheral nerve damage.
Dr. Naam, who will celebrate 50 years in medicine in 2016, said he wants to reinforce that the organization's membership are leaders, not followers and want others to be a part.
