The City of Effingham has announced its participation in the Affordable Housing Program offered by the Community Investment Group of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago.

City Administrator Jim Arndt said the City recently partnered with Washington Savings Bank of Effingham to provide a Homeowner Occupied Rehabilitation Program for qualified members of Effingham.  The $400,000 grant has been awarded by the Federal Home Loan Bank of Chicago.

The City and Washington Savings Bank will be assisting 50 qualified homeowners with home improvement projects.  Qualified applicants will need to meet specific household income guidelines, and 20% of the program is dedicated to assisting homeowners who have members of their households who have special needs.

The City of Effingham will be conducting an introductory meeting for anyone interested in participating in the program at the Effingham City Hall located at 201 East Jefferson Avenue.  The meeting will take place in the City Council chambers at 5:30pm on Tuesday, February 4.

Applications for the program will be made available at the meeting, and the following day at Helen Matthes Library, Effingham City Hall, Effingham County Senior Center, both Washington Savings Bank facilities and on the City website, www.effinghamil.com.
