Effingham firefighters were called to Lexington Inn Thursday morning, but there was no fire.
Effingham Fire Chief Joe Holomy said the call at 8:51am came after an odor was detected on the fourth floor of the hotel. Holomy said a source could not be located on that floor so firefighters went to the rooftop air handling units. He said the units had gotten warm from the heat so the air conditioning unit was kicked on and the dust activated the smoke detectors and that turned out to be the source of the odor.
Holomy said no other problems were found. Firefighters were on scene about 25 minutes.
Firefighters were also out Tuesday afternoon due to a fire in the oven of a home at 1103 East Fayette. The call came at 4:14pm and Holomy said the fire was confined to the oven; there was no structural damage.
Firefighters were on the scene just under 45 minutes.
