Construction work on Illinois 121 that began in June will enter a new phase beginning Monday, July 16.

The Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the new work would require Illinois 121 to be closed in two locations between Toledo and US 45.  The road will be open in all other locations prior to and between the closures to accommodate local traffic.  Through traffic will be routed around through a marked detour.

The road will be closed approximately a half-mile east of County Road 900 East and just north of County Road 700 North (Centerline Road) to replace two box culverts.

Weather permitting, it's anticipated that this new phase of work can be completed in approximately 30 days and the road be opened back up to all traffic at that time.

Access will be available in and out of all residences and businesses along Illinois 121 at all times in at least one direction.

Howell Paving of Mattoon is the prime contractor and Brent Bierman is the Resident Engineer for IDOT.  Questions concerning the project should be directed to Brent Bierman at 849-2076 or Charlie Slavens at the Effingham IDOT Office at 342-8231.
