Effingham Noon Rotarians heard the latest on the Richard E. Workman Sports and Wellness Center at their meeting December 4.

Effingham Park District Director Jeff Althoff, who is a Noon Rotarian, spoke on the project, which will include two pool including one for competition and for therapy and recreation as well as sports courts, a walking and running track and other amenities.  St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital officials also plan to rent a portion of the facility for various manners of care.

Althoff said $3 million must be raised in contributions from the public to compliment $5 million contributed by Dr. Rick and Angie Workman and $5.5 million in financing by the Effingham Park District.  The goal is to have the public funds raised and the project let for bids in March with a bid award in April and completion by early summer 2015.

Effingham County Community Foundation Executive Director Joedy Hightower accompanied Althoff, as the Foundation is assisting with the funds contributed toward the project.  Ben Siemer served as Rotary weekly program chairman.
