Dieterich village board members Monday voted to trade one parcel of land for another to include all of the gravesites at the village cemetery into the cemetery property.
Village officials had discovered that about a half dozen graves at the cemetery site were not actually located in the cemetery. The graves are some of the oldest at the cemetery and were dug in the days before GPS devices. To remedy the situation, some property included in the cemetery was transferred to the neighboring farmer and the farmer deeded some property to make sure all of the graves are actually in the cemetery.
Village board members approved a site plan for a drive-through convenience store. The store is to be located along Illinois 33 at 203 N. Loda Street, just east of Subway in Dieterich.
The Board also:
--heard from Dieterich School Superintendent Cary Jackson on the proposed countywide tax swap that would increase the sales tax by 1% in exchange for a reduction in the property taxes of the school districts in the county
--discussed a plan to relocate a storm water pond overflow to the east end of the pond
--discussed getting quotes to replace an open ditch with a buried storm sewer south of the Medical Center
--discussed where to locate bulk water equipment donated by James Backhoe Service to the village
--agreed to get quotes on remodeling the park pavilion restrooms
--passed the fiscal year tax levy
--decided on tree names for the streets to be developed in Phase 3 of the North Pointe East Addition
--voted to grant holiday bonus pay to village employees
The Dieterich board also agreed to hold a Christmas Lighting Contest with judging to take place on December 21. First prize will be a 100% exemption of water, sewer and trash bills for the month of December payable in January, second prize is a 75% exemption, and third prize is a 50% exemption for the month.
