A local man has been placed on probation including jail time after pleading guilty to a count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse of a child.
28-year-old Michael L. Brown pleaded guilty to the offense, which involved a girl between 13 and 16 years old.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Ealy said the incident occurred in June of 2011, but the victim didn't tell of the incident until some time later.
Brown was sentenced to four years' probation including 180 days in Effingham County Jail. He must also register as a sex offender, comply with sex offender treatment, counseling, abstain from use of alcohol and illicit substances and undergo random testing, and pay fines and costs.
