Monday was the final day to file as a candidate in the March primary in local elections, but also in legislative and judicial races.
Only one State Senate race is up for grabs in our area in 2014, the 54th District, which includes the western part of Effingham County. Incumbent Republican Kyle McCarter was the only person to file in that race.
As far as State Representative races, Republican incumbent John Cavaletto of Salem filed for another term in the 107th Legislative District, which includes much of Effingham County. Also filing in the 107th District race was Democrat Josh Berger of Centralia.
Republican incumbent David Reis of Willow Hill was the only person to file in the 109th District that includes the remainder of Effingham County.
In the 102nd District, which includes the area north of Effingham County, Republican incumbent Adam Brown of Champaign filed for another term, but Democrat Matt Forcum of Mode also filed in the race.
The only judicial contest is to decide who will succeed the retiring Kelly Long of Hillsboro as a circuit judge. Democrat James Roberts of Hillsboro, who is currently an associate judge, is the only person to file in that race.
