An inmate that walked away from the Robinson Correctional Center in late August has now been charged with escape.
Jared Carter was on a work detail at the prison when he walked away on August 30. Authorities spent the weekend searching for Carter. He turned up in Palestine on September 3 where he was captured without incident.
The Illinois Department of Corrections spent two months investigating the escape. They handed their investigation over to the Crawford County State's Attorney's Office two weeks ago. The escape charge was filed Thursday afternoon.
Carter has been housed at the Pontiac Correctional Center since his capture.
