Governor Pat Quinn has announced the next phase of a plan to reconstruct I-57/70 through Effingham.

The completed project will see three lanes of travel in each direction through Effingham.

More than $61 million is being invested on the project.  In the next phase, the I-57/70 and US 45 (Third Street) interchange will be completely reconstructed with two new bridges, culverts, storm sewers, pavement and lighting.  The project also involves 2.7 miles of interstate reconstruction and resurfacing from west of 4th Street to east of Township Road 258.  The work was awarded to McCarthy Improvement Company of Davenport, Iowa, the lowest of three bidders, using local workers.  McCarthy has overseen the work completed on the south end of the project and the work currently underway.

The project will be completed in early 2015 and will be managed by IDOT.
