Teutopolis school board members Tuesday approved high school Math courses for next school year.
Following a presentation by high school Math teachers, high school principal Greg Beck and counselor Diana Grinestaff, the Board approved the changes involving more advanced Math classes and more dual credit college Math classes.
The Board heard information from Superintendent Bill Fritcher on a proposed county tax swap that would promise a reduction in property taxes in exchange for voter approval of a 1% sales tax increase. The revenue from the sales tax hike could be used for building renovation or construction.
Also Tuesday, the Teutopolis board approved a payment on the track resurfacing project at the junior high school, approved the sale of an unused school van with a wheelchair lift, approved the school report card from last school year from the State, reviewed a roof report from Garland Company that was done on the roofs of all three district buildings, and agreed to seek a State maintenance grant, which includes that the District agrees to provide matching funds of up to $50,000.
The Teutopolis board approved a tentative tax levy for the coming fiscal year, which includes an increase of a little more than five percent from last year, with a final vote on the measure at the Board's December meeting, and heard reports on building activities from principals, upcoming activities planned during American Education Week next week, progress on security work at Teutopolis High School and on the track at the junior high school.
In personnel action, the Teutopolis board increased Natasha Rauch's teaching time by one hour per day, increased Carrie Copple's teacher aide time by 3-1/2 hours per day, hired Meg Beckman at 16-1/4 hours per week in the Unit Office and high school office, and hired Carla Deters as a four-hour cook at the junior high school.
