A former area resident is dead after jumping from Keller Drive onto the on-ramp leading to Interstates 57/70 Thursday afternoon.
Effingham County Coroner Duane Guffey said the man was identified as 49-year-old Douglas James Holt of Mahomet. It's believed Holt grew up in the Effingham and Teutopolis area.
Guffey said authorities received a call at about 12:52pm of an unresponsive person on the ramp from southbound Keller Drive to I-57 Northbound/I-70 Eastbound. The initial investigation indicated that Holt jumped from Keller Drive and landed where he was found.
Holt was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham where he was pronounced dead in the Emergency Room at 1:29pm. The initial investigation also indicated Holt died from injuries received in the fall and no foul play is suspected. An autopsy to determine the official cause of death is scheduled for Friday afternoon.
The investigation continues by the Illinois State Police and the Effingham County Coroner's Office. The Effingham Police and Fire Departments assisted at the scene.
