In an effort to afford interested citizens the opportunity to explore joining a trained volunteer emergency services organization, a Volunteer Recruitment Fair and Volunteer Searcher Orientation Program has been organized. The event will take place Saturday, November 9 at the Effingham County Emergency Operations Center at 311 Miracle Avenue in Effingham.
With the recent outpouring of local support in the Willow Long search, this event will give many people the opportunity to browse the many possibilities of volunteer emergency services in Effingham County.
The Volunteer Searcher Orientation Program will be conducted from 9am to noon for those wishing to be listed as oriented "Searchers" for possible future use in missing persons operations.
For citizens interested in becoming a member of a Volunteer Fire Department, Dive Rescue Team, K-9 Search Team, Equine Team, Emergency Management or Medical Reserve Corps, they should attend the Volunteer Recruitment Fair from noon to 3pm to browse the booths of various organizations that may fit their interest.
Fire departments, the Dive Rescue Team, K-9 SAR Team, EMT Cert Team, Equine Team, Effingham County Health Department MRC, and others will display their equipment and provide applications and information on becoming a member of their particular volunteer emergency service.
Each service has its own requirements. The amount of time and dedication needed will vary depending upon the incumbent duties of each department.
Local Girl Scouts will be selling refreshments at the event.
