Making flood insurance available to those who need it in the village of Dieterich has been a topic for some time for the village board, but the matter appears resolved after action at this week's board meeting.

The Board passed a measure approving national flood plain insurance for the village, but only obligates those living along the creek that runs through the village who have experienced past flooding to be eligible for the insurance.

The Village of Dieterich has never been mapped for flood plain areas, nor has Effingham County, so this step was taken to give those in need of flood insurance the option to get it.

The Board heard from Deb Bohannon, who offered to assist the village with marketing.  Bohannon suggested coordinating the village's Facebook page and website to make sure the information is up-to-date and consistent.

Board members voted to send the site plan for Phases 3 and 4 of North Pointe Subdivision to the Plan and Zoning Board for review.  More than 40 new residential lots are included in the two phases.  The Board also approved a site plan of a lot in the Industrial Park that will house Schabbing Stain and Finish.

The Board discussed damage done at the park pavilion by a youngster in September.  There are reports the alleged 11-year-old offender stuffed paper in a toilet and set the paper on fire.  Officials are discussing whether charges should be filed against the juvenile.

The Board also set Trick or Treat in Dieterich for Thursday, October 31 from 6-8pm.
