A Dieterich woman was injured in a Friday night crash in Marion County.
State police say 21-year-old Alexandria Ruholl was injured when her vehicle was rear-ended by another vehicle on I-57, four miles south of Farina at 7:15pm. Authorities say a vehicle driven by 18-year-old Seth Allen Barnhart of Cape Girardeau, Missouri was traveling north at a high rate of speed when the unit rear-ended Ruholl's vehicle. The impact caused Ruholl's vehicle to leave the roadway, overturn and then strike a tree. Barnhart's vehicle ran off the roadway and through the median and then across both southbound lanes, into some trees and caught fire. Barnhart was able to get out of the vehicle unassisted. Firefighters on scene indicated Barnhart's car contained gas cans.
Both drivers were injured; Barnhart was taken to Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, while Ruholl was taken to Salem Public Hospital.
Barnhart was cited for DUI, illegal consumption of liquor by a minor, failure to reduce speed to avoid the crash and improper lane usage. Authorities say additional charges are possible once an investigation into the crash is completed. Ruholl was cited for driving while her license is suspended.
