Heavy Rainfall Leads to Flooded Underpass

Saturday's heavy early afternoon rainfall led to a flooded Fayette Avenue underpass and flooded intersections throughout Effingham and the surrounding area.

Saturday's cloudburst was more than Effingham's storm sewer system could absorb in such a short amount of time.

The car seen here was eastbound through the underpass until the vehicle literally flooded out.  A tow truck had to be called to remove the vehicle.  A city police officer is seen checking on the welfare of the car's occupants.
