A county wide food drive for Catholic Charities will be held on Sunday, October 13, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will be going door to door in Effingham County collecting non-perishable food items for the Catholic Charities food pantry. Donated food will then be delivered to Catholic Charities where more volunteers will stack them on pantry and storage shelves. Martin's IGA+ will donate sacks for the project.

The food drive is part of the “Serve Now, Serve Together” weekend that several area churches are participating in together. The event begins on Thursday, October 10, and continues through Sunday, October 13.

Those who want to donate but will not be home on October 13 can put the food donations by their front door in a sack marked “Catholic Charities” and volunteers will pick them up. They can also be dropped off at Christ’s Church of Effingham, 2511 Veterans Drive, Tuesday through Friday between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.

All non-perishable food donations are appreciated. Suggested donations include: canned chicken, soups, crackers, canned fruit, tuna helper, instant potatoes, cereal, pastas, cake and cookie mixes, flour, sugar, applesauce, and jelly.

Those who are part of the Serve Now Serve Together weekend who want to serve can sign up online to be a group leader. You will be responsible for putting together a group of people (car load) to go door to door and pick-up the food donations.
