Stolen Dump Truck Leads to Arrest

A homeless man has been arrested in connection with the theft of a dump truck.
Effingham City Police were called to a report of a suspicious vehicle in the ravine near the intersection of Outer Belt West and Evergreen Avenue. Officers arriving on scene found a dump truck owned by McCarthy Improvement Company of Davenport, Iowa, which had been stolen. The homeless man, 45-year-old Michael Rahaim was reportedly driving the dump truck along the east side of the road near the intersection of Charlotte Street and Ford Avenue.
Police conducted a traffic stop and took Rahaim into custody for felony theft, driving under the influence, driving while his license is suspended and criminal damage to property.
A sign and mailbox owned by Arby's of Effingham sustained damage as well as a stop sign. No injuries were reported.
