The murder trial of Charles Yoder was in Effingham County Circuit Court Thursday, but there was little action.

Yoder is charged with stabbing Ted Debany outside a residence they were sharing in Effingham on May 7.

The only matter addressed was a defense request for appointment of a private investigator to look into the case on Yoder's behalf.  Public Defender Scott Schmidt is at a conference so was not present, and Assistant Public Defender Janet Fowler sat in with Yoder.

Judge Sherri Tungate wondered whether there was money in the Public Defender's budget for paying a private investigator and no one present could answer the question, so Tungate continued the matter to September 25.

Yoder is still scheduled to go on trial October 7, but that date is looking doubtful.
