Samuel Music Company of Effingham has announced the acquisition of Thompson-Kramer Music Company.

Samuel Music said the acquisition allows for a stronger, more unified presence in the world of school music. With their combined sales force and industry knowledge, the two companies have the ability to offer both schools and customers a larger variety of instruments, better service, and continued repair service.

Samuel Music, a long-time provider and retailer in central Illinois music, made the decision earlier this year to close their retail stores in order to focus on their core mission of focusing solely on school band.   They now rent, sell and service items related specifically to school band, concentrating in the central and southern Illinois area. Thompson-Kramer has been serving the needs of school bands in the Decatur and Springfield areas for over 50 years, offering their customers sales and service along with everything from band rentals to professional grade instruments.  They’ve also specialized in orchestral stringed instruments and concert percussion.

“With their industry and area knowledge, similar values and adjacent territory, Thompson-Kramer was a natural acquisition for Samuel Music,” said Amanda Moloney, Samuel Music general manager. ““We feel that together we will be more effective and responsive in meeting the changing needs of the music community,” she added.

The company will service the needs of schools stretching from Champaign to Decatur to Springfield to Mattoon/Effingham and southern Illinois.

Jim Kramer, Samuel Music Band, has accepted the position of Samuel Music School Band Representative and will continue to be based out of Decatur.  He can be directly reached at (217)-877-1832.  Samuel Music will remain based out of Effingham and can be reached at 217-342-9221.  Information relating to band services can be found on their website at and on their Facebook page.
