Two semis were involved in a rear-end crash Saturday morning on the interstate at Effingham, resulting in a traffic tie-up.
The crash happened about 11am at the Fayette Avenue onramp to southbound I-57/westbound I-70. A semi driven by 61-year-old Jeffrey Hackney of Danville, Indiana started to merge onto the interstate when he stopped for a passing truck. When he stopped, Hackney's semi was rear-ended by a rig driven by 61-year-old Bill Don Henrick of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Hackney was injured and was taken to St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Henrick was cited for following too closely.
Travel on the interstate at the scene of the crash was stopped briefly and was reduced to one lane for a short time longer until the semis could be removed.
