Bids will be opened this month on the next phase of the reconstruction of I-57/70 through Effingham.

The next phase involves 2.7 miles of reconstruction and resurfacing of the interstate from west of 4th Street to east of Township Road 258, and the reconstruction of the US Route 45 interchange on Effingham's north side.

The work is part of an effort to provide three lanes of travel in both directions on I-57/70 through Effingham.  The total project is valued at $64.8 million.

St. Sen. Kyle McCarter's office said bids will also be opened on replacing the bridge over Moccasin Creek, 1.5 miles southeast of Wright's Corner in Fayette County.  The project is valued at $250,000.

IDOT said the projects are scheduled for bid receipt on September 20.  The review process normally takes about 45 days before contracts are awarded.
