St. Elmo school board members got a fiscal update at this week's meeting.

Superintendent Deb Philpot told the Board that if the District receives all revenues owed by the State, the budget should be balanced.  If the State falls short on making all payments owed to the District, then the District would face another deficit year.

Philpot noted the District has lost $825,000 in State Aid due to the State prorating State Aid over the last three fiscal years.  Philpot said the District has been cost efficient in reducing expenditures to handle the cuts the District is experiencing.

The Board approved a tentative budget for the coming fiscal year, with a final vote at the September meeting.

Philpot also reported that the Gretchen Courtney teacher in-services were termed a great success.  She said teachers will continue to have training throughout the school year.

Philpot also reported that summer building improvements are almost completed.  The elementary and junior-senior high school facilities will have new security cameras and electronic security doors at both buildings.

The Board also heard from Emily Aderman, Sam Sperry and Blake Austin on the annual National FFA Convention, a Board-approved trip, and employed Pam Parrish as full-time paraprofessional for the new school year.
