Newton city police are investigating a possible attempted child abduction.

Police were notified just after 3:30pm Monday of a possible attempted abduction at South Lafayette Street and West Reynolds Street in Newton.  The description of the vehicle was a full-size white van occupied by one black male driver.  The information was distributed to surrounding area law enforcement agencies.

Effingham County sheriff's deputies stopped a vehicle and the information taken of two subjects in the vehicle matched the description given to Newton police.

No other information was substantiated from the traffic stop, however Newton Police continue to investigate the incident.
