We are still compiling returns from area counties on this day after Election Day 2025.

The results of the Lake Land College Board of Trustees race are still being compiled, as all or parts of 15 counties make up the Lake Land district. However, the results available indicate that Chuck Deters of Teutopolis and Scott Montgomery of Gays have been elected to full six-year terms on the Board. Dr. Nash Naam of Effingham was the third candidate for trustee.

While Montgomery lives in Coles County, he works in Effingham.

Larry Lilly of Mattoon was the only candidate for an unexpired four-year term on the Board. Lilly is a native of Beecher City, but is a retired superintendent for Mattoon schools.

Fayette County voters decided against a 1% sales tax that would have helped pay for construction of a courthouse, to be known as the Fayette County Government Center. The tax would have been collected for up to 35 years.

In Vandalia, Doug Knebel was elected the next mayor. Knebel will succeed Ricky Gottman, who is wrapping up six terms as mayor.

In Clay County, a 1% sales tax proposal failed 1,936 to 570. The tax would have paid for school facility improvements, school resource officials, and mental health professionals.

Another Clay County tax question, this one for highway purposes, failed 1,964 to 503.

Results are also in for the Stewardson-Strasburg Board of Education. The three elected are Phillip Boyer, Ryan Schutte and Douglas Holland. The other candidates were Kevin Beitz and Christopher Debolt.

The results for Effingham County are available on the front page of our websites, 979XFM.com and kjcountry.com.
