Today is the first day of the "new normal" at Neoga schools.

Students have been out of the classrooms since a tornado struck their school complex just after midnight on Saturday, March 15. For the foreseeable future, high schoolers will attend classes in the Neoga Community Center that once served as the elementary school building. The elementary building will house both elementary and junior high classes.

The drop-off line at the grade school was definitely longer and slower moving than usual. The lengthier time was to be expected with all of the traffic coming back to the one building.

The original plan was to resume classes on Monday, but the extra two days were needed to finalize preparations for students' return. The two extra days are being classified as Act of God Days and will not need to be made up. The last student attendance day remains scheduled for May 30.

Meanwhile, Neoga administrators will continue to determine whether repairs can be made to what remains of the buildings damaged by the tornado, or whether a rebuild will be necessary.
