Further expansion of the Effingham County TREC Trail was discussed during Thursday's annual meeting of the TREC Board.

Our Greg Sapp spoke with TREC Board President Mo Dust about progress expected on the trail system this year...

The network of trails is to be extended this year and completion of the network could take place with the next project, once funding is in place.

The Board also thanked Effingham County and the Effingham Park District for their work to maintain the trails, and also discussed 2025 goals. Those include cleaning out the area along the Nature Park, coordinating with the County on repairs, and completion of a TREC website.

Some thoughts as to how the website could be enhanced included color-coded maps, a history of TREC, alerts as to the condition of the trail in times of inclement weather, and ways that those who use the trails could document the distance traveled.
