HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors includes local community members whose talents, experience and passion assist St. Anthony’s leadership in meeting area health care needs. Board members volunteer their time, providing counsel and oversight on decisions that positively affect St. Anthony’s sustainable future and advance the hospital’s Mission.
St. Anthony’s has welcomed two new members to their Board of Directors, Chuck Deters of Teutopolis and Joseph Emmerich of Effingham.
“We are so pleased to have successful community leaders like Chuck and Joe join our Board,” said Anthony Powers, St. Anthony’s Chief Administrative Officer. "I value the depth of experience, active community participation, and governance expertise that both contribute, which further enhances our existing team of dedicated, service-oriented board members."
(CHUCK DETERS)
- Chuck Deters comes to the board after 15 years at Dieterich Bank, serving nine of those as CEO. Prior to that, Deters gained operations and human resources experience through his long tenure at Consolidated Communications. He has served area residents on many boards, including Southeastern Illinois Community Foundation, The Alliance, Friends of St. Anthony’s Foundation, Teutopolis Community for Progress, Teutopolis Education Foundation and the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce.
Deters shared, “Now that I am retired, I have more time to support organizations I am passionate about, like the mission of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital. I am honored to join their Board of Directors since they are such an essential part of this community. They have provided care for 150 years, and as the largest employer in our area, I can’t imagine what our community would be like without them,” he said.
(JOE EMMERICH)
- Joe Emmerich’s professional work history includes 47 years at John Boos & Co., working his way up from a factory-level worker to CEO. Although now retired from full-time work, he serves as Chairman of the Board for John Boos. Emmerich has served on multiple boards, including John Boos & Co., BK Resources, JB Holding Co., and WorkSpace+. He also is an ordained Deacon with the Diocese of Springfield and has ministered in several area parishes, including Sacred Heart, Annunciation and St. Anthony of Padua, where he currently ministers.
Emmerich said, “St. Anthony’s ministry and mission of delivering high-quality health care to all aligns with my professional experience as a business executive while also fitting well with my service as a Permanent Deacon in the Catholic Church. As the former CEO of John Boos & Co, a 137-year-old Effingham County business, my hospital Board service helps connect the community to St. Anthony’s enduring mission while maintaining the support that has made it a multi-generational health care anchor in Effingham."
Deters and Emmerich join other members of St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital’s Board of Directors:
Dr. Eric Bloemer
Jean Anne Highland
Carrie Rodman
Dr. Lana Schmidt
