The Village of Dieterich is employing an Eastern Illinois University professor to map the village cemetery to learn who is buried where.
The village knows the names of most of the people and where they're located, but not everyone. Dr. Steven Di Naso of the Geology and Geography department at EIU works with communities on similar projects. The work involves digital mapping and drone flying to help determine all of the graves and who is located where. The work will cost the village $3,700 and will be done once the weather improves.
Dieterich Village Clerk Brittny Gipson spoke with Neoga City Clerk Brenda Evans who steered her to Di Naso.
The Dieterich board also hired H&K Excavating for the demolitions at 103 North Vine Street and 204 East Section Street for $21,000 as part of the village's Flood Hazard Mitigation Grant Project.
Board members also were updated on grant funding for sewer main relining in the village. Dieterich already received a $1 million grant, and are now seeking EPA grant money to cover the balance of the cost of the work.
