(THE CAR THAT RAN OFF ROUTE 40 INTO CIPS LAKE THIS MORNING)

No serious injuries resulted when a vehicle ran off US Route 40 west of Effingham and into CIPS Lake this morning.

A woman and two young children were inside the vehicle. Authorities say the eastbound vehicle slid off the highway and into the lake. Only the back of the vehicle will be visible to passersby. The back window glass broke, allowing the three people to get out of the vehicle. They were treated at the scene.

Emergency crews were called to the scene just after 7:30am. Route 40 was reopened about 7:50am.

The Effingham County Dive Rescue Team recovered the car from the water early this afternoon.
