The Clay County Board has called a special meeting for Wednesday night to name a new county sheriff.
James Sulsberger is retiring with about a year and a half remaining in his term. Sulsberger said his wife retired from teaching this spring and it seemed like the right time for him to retire.
This is Sulsberger's second time around as sheriff; his first term in office was in the 1970s.
Current sheriff's deputy Andy Myers is expected to be named the new sheriff Wednesday. Sulsberger said Myers has 12 years' experience.
That's different from when Sulsberger took office. He said when he took office in the 70s, he'd only been to the Courthouse twice.
