The Effingham County Board's Tax and Finance Committee Thursday voted to allocate $10,000 for free rides for seniors, disabled citizens and veterans on the Effingham County Public Transit system. The Board had earmarked ARPA funds to cover the cost of the project.
Board member Jeremy Deters said usage of the transit system is growing. Deters said as usage grows, it could lead to more support from townships and municipalities in the county for the system.
The committee also approved an invoice totaling $146,715 for the third of four payments to F&C Concrete for the new gazebo on the Courthouse Museum lawn.
Committee members also met in closed session to discuss the purchase of property for a potential project, but there was no action.
