Effingham County's three local state representatives weighed in Wednesday following the verdicts in the trial of former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan.
ST. REP. BRAD HALBROOK OF SHELBYVILLE--“I want to thank the jury for their thorough examination of the evidence and the decision they came to in this historic and important case. For those of us who served under Michael Madigan and understood his power, this verdict was a foregone conclusion. Every Democrat in the statehouse knew, or should have known, that the ComEd deal was corrupt. Considering this verdict, Democrats should be willing to strengthen ethics laws in the state and change the operating rules of the House so that control of legislation is shared and more transparent.”
ST. REP. BLAINE WILHOUR OF BEECHER CITY--"Mike Madigan deserved his guilty verdict. I hope they throw him in prison. He is a corrupt, self-serving politician who has done tremendous damage to our state. Almost as bad, his hand-picked successor, despite presiding over the most corrupt General Assembly in the nation, has passed zero anti-corruption reforms. We should be asking why."
