An area man has been sentenced to five years in prison for forgery in Shelby County.
William Merriman pleaded guilty to the forgery count. Shelby County State's Attorney Gina Vonderheide said in addition to the prison term, Merriman was ordered to pay $1,630 in restitution. The case was concluded as part of a negotiated plea that also involved a case in Macon County.
