Effingham city council members heard about a $3 million grant at this week's meeting.
The Regional Site Readiness grant is from the State and a project does not have to be identified to receive the funds. A 20% local match is required.
City Economic Development Director Todd Hull said the funding will pay for a westerly extension of Airport Road. The extension will run from US Route 45 to where Schutzabach Street extends north from Thies Avenue. Hull said the project should open up a tract of city-owned land to development.
The project will include street, sewer and water extension. Engineering will need to be completed on the project, then the work can be let for bids.
