Members of the Effingham County 911 Board heard at this week's meeting that the tower outside the county sheriff's office is in good shape.

The report from Civil Design indicated that some equipment on the tower that's no longer in use should be removed, but the tower itself is structurally sound.

Speaking of towers, recognition was given by the 911 Board to Henry Siemer of Siemer Milling Company in Teutopolis. The company has provided antenna space on their site for emergency communication for many years and is part of the network of antenna sites for the new countywide network.

System Administrator Tina Daniels reported that she is clarifying details on console furniture for one of the 911 dispatching points, then will send out requests for proposals on the furniture.

The Board tabled the issue of fees for six radios for Teutopolis firefighters until next month's meeting, and heard from County Board member Doug McCain, who asked for larger 911 signs around the county. McCain's business involves travel to other counties and said Effingham County's signs need to be larger so they can be read more easily. State 911 legislation indicates the issue is one handled by the County, rather than 911, when it comes to maintenance of signs.
