Washington Savings Bank has announced its successful donation to local food pantries following the 2024 Reverse Advent Calendar Fundraiser. Throughout December, the Bank invited team members and community members to drop off non-perishable food items at branches in Mattoon and Effingham, contributing to the fight against food insecurity in the local area.
Participants in the fundraiser were provided daily donation suggestions but were encouraged to give any suitable non-perishable items they could. Thanks to the overwhelming support from the community, a substantial collection of food items was donated to Enduring Freedom Ministries and St. John’s Food Pantry in Effingham, as well as the Mattoon Community Food Center in Mattoon.

“We are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by our team members and the community during this initiative,” said Elaine Buehnerkemper, Senior Vice President, “Food insecurity affects far too many of our neighbors, and it’s heartening to see so many people come together to make a difference.”
Washington Savings Bank extends its sincere thanks to the volunteers at Enduring Freedom Ministries, St. John’s Food Pantry, and the Mattoon Community Food Center, whose dedication ensures that these donations reach those in need.
The Reverse Advent Calendar Fundraiser reflects Washington Savings Bank’s commitment to fostering a stronger, more supportive community. “Together, we can make a meaningful impact,” Buehnerkemper added. “This initiative is a reminder that even small actions, when combined, can create lasting change.”
