Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns said county residents appear to be heeding the word as to tough travel conditions and are staying off the roadways.

Kuhns took the long way to check out potential trouble spots on his way to work and said, "I don't see the normal amount of traffic and that's helping us."

The sheriff said with the snowfall ending by midday that the big consideration will be drifting, especially on east-west roadways.

Kuhns said, "I hope people will stay home and take the day off."
