One person was killed and two people were injured in a Saturday morning crash at approximately 6:30am on the south edge of Effingham.
Effingham County Coroner Kim Rhodes said the man killed was 41-year-old James Ashley of Effingham. Illinois State Police reported Ashley's southbound SUV drifted over into the northbound turn lane. Ashley's vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck towing a camper driven by 64-year-old Scott Mosher of Effingham. Mosher's pickup had changed lanes to the center turn lane for northbound traffic to turn left (west) onto Jaycee Avenue.
Both drivers and Mosher's passenger, 61-year-old Kathy Mosher of Effingham, were all injured and were taken to HSHS St. Anthony's Memorial Hospital in Effingham. Ashley was pronounced dead at HSHS St. Anthony's at 7:15am Saturday. Rhodes said that Scott and Kathy Mosher's injuries were non-life threatening.
An autopsy on Ashley was conducted Sunday morning at McLean County Coroner's Office in Bloomington. Rhodes said a preliminary investigation revealed some medical issues, but said the final and official autopsy and toxicology report will not be available for at least 30 days.
An investigation is continuing by the Effingham County Coroner's Office and the Illinois State Police. Agencies that assisted on scene also included Effingham City Police, Effingham Fire Department, the State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit, and Rural Med EMS.
